Types
of Loft Conversion beams and joists that we offer to eliminate the use
of heavy and expensive steel
1. Existing
Joist Ends rotten in the wall only - we supply a Timber Resin Splice
Kit with a 45 degree face angle
2. Existing
Joist not high enough - we supply machined add-on joist and epoxy
resin for fixing
3. Existing
Joists too bendy - we supply bars and resins for fitting into a
central slot
4. New
joists too long to take upstairs - we supply multi part joists,
easy to connect once in the loft
5. Ring
Beams too heavy - we build to order, in sections, for easy installation
6. Ridge
Beam too shallow - we supply laminated add-on with bars inside,
to reduce ridge intrusion
Severe excessive
deflection, overloaded. Stiffened, laminated Ridge Beam parts for Loft
Conversion.

1. Rotted Joist
End repair in a loft conversion - no ceiling damage
Joist Bearing Ends that have
been eaten by Rot or Wood Boring Insects can be repaired using our Timber
Resin Splice Kit, Type C45, which uses High Tensile Steel Bars, Zinc
Plated Allthread embedded in Structural Epoxy Pouring Resin or Grout.
New timber
component in place - note that the bars are now hidden in the slot,
within the resin.
Independent
Engineering calculation service available from us, from £350 per
beam, Indemnified (Insured)

2. Under sized
Joists made taller in a loft conversion - no steel required
Joists that are not tall
enough can be added to by using our machined to size joist extension
pieces, which are simply bonded on top of the existing joists using
our special Thixotropic epoxy Laminating Resin.
Thixotropic
Epoxy Laminating Resin - colour coded for easy mixing. Precision fit
machined Kiln Dried C24 Joist add on..

3.
How to increase strength - joists or beams too bendy
Upgrade
the Beam or Joist - cut a slot, or slots, along the length to within
about 40mm of the base and bond in BS4449 High Tensile Rebar
with Structural Epoxy Pouring Grout. This is know as a 'modified
flitch' design and approximately doubles the stiffness of a typical
timber, in bend.
Barn,
Somerset - overloaded
tie beams in a barn now carrying heavy clay tiles on the roof (had been
a thatched roof and then was converted to a lightweight galvanized sheet
roof).

strong enough, but no room for the correct depth of timber

inside to reduce the depth (to provide head height) or we supply an
upgrade section to fit in place under the existing Ridge Beam, which
is fixed in place using bars and resin..
Decorative Ridge Beam parts,
ready to Laminate. Laminated Ridge Beam in Glulam.
